Editing navigation cues

Ricyro shared this question 2 years ago
Answered

Hi

After creating a route I used to be able to go along the route with the cursor and see the navigation cues and then edit or delete them as required. How do I get this back, is it a setting I have turned off?

Also does it make a difference to the cues if I first create the using the new web planner, or create the route within the app.

Thanks Rich

Hi Rich,

the navigation commands are newly hidden on the map (they covered the route and took too much place). You can display them though - open settings > points&tracks > show navigation commands - turn ON.

Hi Michal

Thanks. That's a great feature as was a bit annoying before. I can now just show them on the map to check before going out on a route.

Are there any plans to add the nav commands to the new planner, as that would make editing them alot easier than on a phone.

Hi Rich,

many errors in the navigation commands originate in the wrong placement of the shaping or waypoints - users place them on intersections or inaccurately. We'll try to find a way how to prevent them, see https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/22212-incorrect-navigation-commands-in-opposite-direction

For cycling I find I get far too may bear rights and bear lefts just at bends in a road. As I use voice commands with phone in pocket then these only a nuisance. The main problems I have come across (and I dont put waypoints at junctions) is that if a road turning is off the road I am on but on the ground looks pretty much straight on (and probably if the roads have the same classifications) I wont get any command. I also find errors when the route is straight aheads at a road junction but get a voice command thats says bear right or bear left.

Also related I have just had a look at a route I have created within Locus and can see the navigation commands. However for a route that I imported as a gpx it does not have them. I used this route recently and got the commands as I went round; so is there any way to show these on the track as per routes created within Locus.

Hi Rich,

"I find I get far too many bear rights and bear lefts just at bends in a road."

- this happens when the route is not planned in Locus and is imported from outside. Locus then creates voice commands just according to the shape of the route as it doesn't have data about the real intersections. For the same reason the commands are not visible on the map after the import - Locus generates them only when the navigation along the imported route is started.

Thanks for your help Michal . Much appreciated.

Can you point me to an article that explains the difference between using LoRouter Offline and BRouter.

Hi Rich,

for the time being, there is no such article, sorry for that. The app development is faster than our user manual updates... We're working on it.

In short, the LoRouter is an internal Locus router, nothing is needed to be additionally installed (unlike BRouter). LoRouter routing data are downloaded from within Locus too (BRouter data needs to be downloaded from the BRouter app). LoRouter provides our specially optimized routing profiles (BRouter offers its own profiles). LoRouter profiles are the same in the offline, online and web versions so you get the same result when planning in the app and on the web.

Thanks Michal, that is very helpful. Sorry to take up so much of your time on this, just two final questions!

1. With BRouter I can open the app and see what I have downloaded for offline use. How can I see what is downloaded for LoRouter offline.

2. If I plan a route when online using LoRouter then are the navigation commands incorporated into the route; so that if I go offline they are still there?

Thanks

Rich

Hi Rich,

1) open Locus settings > Navigation > Router > select LoRouter offline > open the router menu:

Select "Routing data updater" - here you can see which data packs you have downloaded. You can also set up automatic updating.

2) yes, you need internet connection only for generating the route. The navigation commands remain available offline.

Thanks again Michal.

The data pack reference numbers don't mean anything to me. If I am going on holiday to a new part of the world how do I ensure I have downloaded the data packs for that area.

You go to the store. There to the corresponding LoMaP and then to download routing data.

Great, thanks. I am now more confident that I can delete my Brouter data!

You'll be prompted to download missing data when you start planning a route in that area. There's no need to know the meaning of the reference numbers (I suppose they are squares defined by coordinates)

Thanks, that's good to know and probably will save memory from having to download whole countries.

Just back to editing navigation clues:

Can I add a new navigation command where there currently isn't one? I tried to but failed.

Also this is may be a glitch in the app but I can edit existing commands , eg change a bear right to a turn right, however this is not reflected in the on screen visual until I exit the app and reopen (see attached file where I have changed a bear left to a turn left and then clicked back on it to open again, behind the scenes it knows it is a turn left but the on screen nav command box still has bear left) - see attached file.
