Cloud synchronization in Locus 4 - some questions

Hi,

I have few questions regarding new feature which is Cloud Sychronization, which concerns your own cloud (and not external one like Dropbox, etc).

1. Is there any limitation in the number of points/tracks that we can synchronize there? I have not found this information anywhere.

2.How does this synchronization works in detail between different devices. Is there any master device which is the source of truth. So let;s say when I do the first full synchro and then sunchronize it to the other device will this overwrite all points/tracks on that device or merge somehow with them, leaving local changes. And when both devices are synchronized, will sycnhro work both ways or only from master device to the other, so let's say if I mae a change on the other device, will this flow to the firs (master) as well, or it can be set only one way, so only changes from master device are synchronized to the other one?

3. In web planner, there's a section for my tracks, where I presume, I will see all my tracks synchronized to the cloud (will I?) And what about points? Are (will) they also visible in web planner ? Why asking? When I plan geo trip I plan based on GC poins as well so if webplanner does not show these points, then it does not make sense to me to use it, and it;s much bettr to plan trip using Locus on phone or tablet where I also see the points. But curious how this work.

4. Can I sychronize only some points or let's say specific folder with points or tracks? I see sycnhronization button in folders but when I use it, it goes to this main synchro task and tries to synchornize all. Although I have still an issue with it, so I have not succesfully finalized first full synchro and maybe that's why it works like that. Can yu give some more details?

Hi Ator,

in the following days, we're going to publish a blogpost summarizing the most frequent questions of the past two weeks. Nevertheless, in short, here are your answers:

1) there's actually no limit but the bigger your data base is, the slower it can be synced and the more prone it is to some malfunctions (for example, there are issues with sets of 300k geocaches etc.)

2) the recommended procedure is to start with your "oldest" device, sync it with the cloud and then proceed with syncing other devices. But actually there is no "primary" device in this process, all devices are equal and the synchronization takes into account the latest changes across all devices.

3) displaying points on web map is in development, hopefully it'll be done in a few months

4) this option has been discussed but so far not decided yet

Hello,

Thanks for support.

I have LM 4 installed on my tablet (usually master DB) and already on my smartphone.

Now sync from tablet to cloud has been done successfully , but on my smartphone there is copy of all files synced via dropbox. Which steps do you recommend before connecting the smartphone to the cloud data . and prevent loosing data, or other issues ?

Partially sync function would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter,

Locus synchronization ignores Dropbox. It syncs only Locus database. If you are unsure, you can make a backup of your smartfone Locus data (see https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:tools:backup#manual_backup) and then start syncing with cloud.

+1.

I just subscribed to gold. The only reason for that was the hope that I can see all my own Points (including Geocaches) in the web-planner. Unfortunately this is not so right now. Working with my Points in the online web-planner should be an option. Otherwise the gold-subscription will be useless for me.

Really cool. That's what I wanted to hear :)

Will there also be Geocaches visible in the online planner?
