Hi there.
I know Locus already has a geocaching friends feature implemented, but I think it could be bettered.
Here's some ideas:
- Instead of having to write the names manually, would it be possible to fetch them automatically from GC? I mean... the list is always changing and sometimes we forget to edit the friends field.
- There should be a new tab in the geocache description, because as it is now, the logs are all bundled together, review notes, maintenance, DNF, founds, etc. A window just for friends logs would help to organize it and filter the type of logs we want.
I like this idea
To be precise this feature should be named "Friends' Logs" since also DNF or Notes should be listed - like its counterpart on a Geocaching.com's online Listing within the "View all Log"-Section.
Yesterday I asked 2 Geocaching friends who are using Locus for years, which features they are missing most in Locus and why they are still sometimes using Geocaching app "c:geo". Both answered the same: its the feature of listing Friends logs, and do this automatically by getting the friends-list or logs from Groundspeak-API, without the need to manually define a friends' list in Locus before.
BTW: there's also a related thread here: https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/geocaching-friends-tab

Hello, any news on this idea which would be a handy Geocaching feature?

Hi Sonny, others,
the geocache logs screen will get a "Friends" tab. Open a cache's logs and tap the refresh button to switch to the online mode. A new "Friends" tab then appears next to "All". This display a logs of your geocaching friends who found this cache, straight from the server.
Important info: this reads your friends directly from your Groundspeak account — it does NOT use the app's local "Names of friends" setting (Settings › Geocaching). So it always reflects your current Groundspeak friends.
Question to raise: server now provides the friends list, would you be OK if we eventually removed the in-app "Names of friends" list entirely? The only thing it still drives is the friends-first ordering / red highlight of friend logs in the OFFLINE (stored) view. Do you still rely on that manual list, or would relying on your Groundspeak friends be enough?

Great news, thanks Menion!
I think relying on Groundspeaks friends is enough, to avoid duplication and contradictions between both lists.
