Error 12569 when downloading Vector maps from freizeitkarte-osm.de

Solved

Hi there,

I just tried to download maps (deu+west and nld+) from freizeitkarte-osm.de, which I've been doing for long time without any problems. It took quite some time (several intervals of "download" and "extraction") and ended both times with an error 12569 "not successful". After a restart of Locus, the error message remains but the code disappeard (see attached screenshot). However it seems, as if both maps are installed and working ...

I'm using Locus 4.2.1 with a "gold" subscription on a Pixel 3a running Android 11 (SP June 2021). The selected data directories are shown in the second screenshot.

What does this error message want to tell me?

Best regards

Martin

Hello Martin,

may you please write me exact name of the map files you are downloading from the OpenAndroMaps web? I tried one small map and it seems to work correctly and I do not see in available maps exactly your files. Thanks

Hi Jiří M. aka Menion,

it wasn't from the OpenAndroMaps but the "install for LOCUS" option on

- https://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/android/de/mitteleuropa.html#DEU (map: Westdeutschland DEU+WEST 0.9 GB) and

- https://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/android/de/westeuropa.html#GBR-IMN-IRL-NLD-BEL (map: Niederlande NLD+ 1.0 GB)

Thanks for taking care!

Hello Martin,

if I read more carefully your initial post, I should save some time and a stupid question, sorry for this.

I've tried the first DEU map and no problem. So, unfortunately, I'll need extra help from you. I do not know how skilled you are, but may you try to create a bug report right after the download fail, by this method? In generated log should be useful info (not 100% guarantee) about the reason for this issue. Thanks!

Hi Jiří M. aka Menion,

I would love to do that - the problem is that I also use my phone for business and therefore I am not allowed to activate the developer options ... I'm very sorry!

I tried something else though: If I download the respective map to my PC, unzip it and then copy the .map file into the mapsVector directory of Locus, it is much faster and the map is also fully functional ...

Best regards

Hello Martin,

manual download & copy to the app directory is of course possible, but the system used by freizeitkarte web should make things easier > remove this manual step.

Parameters on the web are set correctly, so it looks more like a problem in the app. On the second side, I'm testing it on the Pixel 5 phone, and no problem, which should be a similar environment like you have. Also, no other use reported any problem so it looks like some local problem.

So my question is: if you update your maps once per year, we may leave it as is. Otherwise, I may prepare a special version that will print some info into the file so you won't need a "debug mode" in your device to be enabled. Let me know.

Hello Menion,

and again many thanks for taking care and testing!

I usually update the maps quarterly but -quite honestly- I will probably always do it manually via copy & paste in the future, because it is not quite as comfortable, but much much faster.

Where exactly the problem lies with my Pixel 3a in comparison with the Pixel 5 now (perhaps the differently selected folders?) we must therefore no longer try to clarify elaborately ... for me, this problem can be considered "solved".

Kind regards

Martin

Hello,

oki fine. In the next version (or next next) will be a new tool to change directories. So for example by the change "mapsVector" back to the app root, app will also automatically transfer data. So it will be easier to test the original location vs location in the device root. Because I believe, that default location will be a lot faster and also should work without a problem. Anyway, if a manual update works fine, it is ideal for me :).

Feel free to write me later, if you will need more info or test something.

Hi,

the reason why I changed the mapsVector directory is that if I put the maps in the public directory also other apps can access them ... in my case e.g. c:geo

:)
