S21 ultra screen on when passing hand over

Hi,

I am using Locus Map 4 now after many years with use or Locus Map Pro and I have a wonder considering the screen on when passing the hand over the screen when in navigation mode.

With Locus Map Pro, I was able on my previous mobile phone (Samsung S9+) to have the screen going on when passing the hand over the screen when this one was off after a while without action.

With my new mobile phone (Samsung S21 Ultra), I can never get this running, even if the setting is well switched ON as it was on my previous mobile phone.

I have tested this option with both Locus Map Pro and Locus Map 4, and in both app the option to switch the screen ON when passing the hand over does not work at all.

If I press the 'power' button on the right side of the phone, the screen opens on the Locus Map app correctly.

Is there a special setting to change in the mobile phone parameters to have this working or is this a 'bug' with this kind of phone ?

Thanks,

Laurent

Hi Laurent,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G with Android 11 Stock ROM and have the same problem.

As far as I know this is more a Samsung "problem" than a Locus "problem". I. e. as I know starting with the S10 series Samsung did not install a physical proximity sensor in their devices. They use other sensors, like the lightning sensor for example, to simulate the proximity sensor. And this does not work properly in all of the use cases.

For Locus I solved the problem by activating "Einstellungen --> Erweiterte Funktionen --> Bewegungen und Gesten --> Zum Einschalten zweimal tippen". Sorry I have only the german names present. After that I am able to reactivate Locus by tapping twice on the display to turn screen on again. Not my favorite solution. I would prefer the old one I used for several years on other Samsung devices.

Other Apps I am using, like KinScreen, which have a similar funktion like Locus, can not handle / detect the "proximity sensor" on my device too.

On an older Samsung Galaxy Note 4 running Lineageos 18.1 (Android 11), everything works as expected.

Hi c.s.g,

Thanks for the reply.

I was merly sure it was a problem with the proximity sensors and your answer confirmed my thoughts.

Well, I have the choice between double tap on the screen or one press on the power button located on the right hand side of my mobile phone.

Thank you very much for your answer.

All the best,

Laurent
