Is Locus Map Classic breaking the link with GSAK database for locus ?

zoumba shared this problem 2 years ago
Not a Problem

My oldie and most useful GSAK Database for locus is no more working. I tried reversing to an old backup (via Titanium Backup) with no effect (seems the name change creates a problem).

Then I tried to find an old apk and install it, but that doesn't work. Also Titanium seems to be all lost and can't load the old backup in that context.

So I can't go back to old backups, and can't use the new app with GSAK Database for locus. I'm still fighting to have the app correctly working (3 classic but w/o Gsak for locus) but I have folder issues now.

I do understand that maintaining upward compatibility is a mess for developers (thank you google) but until now I always did the "go on update to latest release", must say I'm not sure what I'll do in the near future.

I don't know how the GSAK Database for Locus Add on recognize the application to which it must send data but it seems it's no more recognized ? This is very annoying for me (I have a huge base of geocaches and only loading those needed via this addon).

I'm quite confident that this became broken with the new release. My android is still an old and vigourous unchanged Android 9, and the add on is the same for ages.

Hi,

the original GSAK addon was discontinued but there is a new one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.bubendorf.locusaddon.gsakdatabase. So try it. However, it is not a product of our team so we can't ensure it'll work either. Anyway, we did not break any links with GSAK databases.

It works like a charm. I haven't seen that version being released. This addon is OK. Many thanks for the info.

I meant that the link between the addon and the application has been broken. Well every thing is ok now. So don't bother about this.

Regarding the addon I saw it was discontinued but at some point there was a alternative build, that worked well.

I have to understand why Titanium backup couldn't restore Locus though. This is strange. And a real problem because if you can't trust your backup system...

I'll deal with that in a few days.

Again, many thanks.

Hi,

Titanium has never worked for Locus perfectly because Locus uses an inner encryption system to prevent piracy. If you need an older version of the app, download it from https://bit.ly/lmVersions.

Ok. Nice move ;-)

Can I still restore data without problem ? Only the app cannot be restored ?

The app has its own backup system (see https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:tools:backup). Set it up for automatic use to some cloud (Dropbox, Google Drive...) and you don't have to worry.

Ok. I'll try that. Until now, I used the same backup system for all apps : Titanium. But I guess this won't work here.
