I like this idea if by "trail color" you mean surface classification, eg. sealed, unsealed, as displayed when planning a route.

In some countries are hiking&bike trails colorcoded https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czech_Hiking_Markers_System. I know, that locus shows way type (and sufrace), but no color. Ideally like this in the elevation profile, as it gives you much better overview. This is the reason why a

I know this from the maps of OAM. But for the altitude chart it makes no sense to me. As Andrew said, for the surface it would be quite nice. But then also only as a line and not the whole surface colored.
