GPS Velocity NaN

Solved

Hi,

I have a big issue with GPS Navigation and Track recording when walking/hiking:

  • When I start locus, I get a GPS fix. But after a few seconds it stops working.
  • First I have the arrow on the map and then only a circle with point.
  • In the GPS View at velocity is shown NaN. But there is a correct GPS Fix.
  • Also in the Compass view the velocity is shown NaN.
  • I have than to close the app and start it new. But after a few seconds it stops working again
  • Track recording does not work because the location is not updated.

Interestingly it works when I move fast (Car/Train). But not when I walk.

I Have tried the Settings of the Hardware Compass or only GPS for the Direction settings in the GPS Menu. My feeling is that it has something to to with the Compass.

I switched last week to a new Phone: Samsung Galaxy S23+ (SM-S916B/DS)
Android 13, Patch 1.3.2023

  • I added Locus Maps to the List of Apps that never go into stby.
  • Locus runs as Service
  • It has allways access to the location Service
  • Installed the App new / deleted all data.

Currently the APP is unusable for me with these issues. I Hope you can help.

Best regards.

Hello,

we are unable to simulate this issue, so we passed this to the developers and we still have no information.

Thank you for your patience.

Hello,

sorry for the delay in the answer.

please, follow this:

  • Download the beta version from here: http://bit.ly/lmVersionsTest
  • After installation, run the app and long-press the main menu button ( 65ab74f02671fb4a2ceb0db7c0510f6e )
  • Choose the "Setup logging"
  • Select the "Log to file" and "Location & GNSS" category
  • Try to replicate all your issues (it will be logged this way)
  • After that, send me the logs which will be created in "Android/data/menion.android.locus/files/Locus/logs"

Thank you very much.

If something isn't clear, feel free to ask me.

Hi,

see the log attached as a zip.
I did some further testing and it seems the error has something to do with the "Google supported location". If I disable this feature in the GPS & Sensor Settings, it seems to work better.

Best regards,

Hello,

thank you for the log. As you discovered already, turning off "Google-supported location" will help.

Wrong values come directly from the phone system, so there are some calculations on the input.

The Google-supported location could provide more precise values, but it sometimes brings more mess than help.
