Aligning a photo from a book to overlay a map
Answered
Is it possible to align a photo (eg. of a geology map in a book) or a pdf page with an existing map/track on a locusmap screen ? Would it become a new ''layer'' ? You would presumably need to make it partly transparent, then transform the photo (translate, rotate, squeeze, resize, eg. using two fingers) to fit a few marked points (eg. three mountain tops) on the photo with the existing map coordinates. The rest of the photo would then be roughly aligned, near enough for many purposes ? I've tried QGIS but it's too difficult for the likes of me. If using a coloured image, the colours on the underlying map would need to be disabled or vice versa ?

Hello,
for this purpose is "Image map calibration" function implemented in Locus:
https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_tools:calibrator
You have to use some image format (JPG, PNG...) and transparency is supported. But you can also set image semi-transparent above the map after the import.
If you need more information, feel free to ask.
