Have to select dashboard at the start of every session

I use a dashboard on/off button on my bottom panel to switch my dashboard on and off as required. I have noticed recently that the first time I try to switch the dashboard on nothing happens and I have to long-press the button to select the dashboard. When the app closes it forgets which dash I had set.
