"Select an item" pullup dialog doesn't meaningfully open in horizontal layout

As the title says, when the app is in horizontal layout, and I tap a spot on the map with multiple items to choose from (e.g. overlapping tracks), the "Select an item" dialog doesn't display options to choose from - I must first pull it up for it to show the list, because by default, only the title of the pull up dialog is visible (see attached screenshot).

I think this logic is flawed, since when I tapped on a map, I obviously want to select something, and additing one more step to continue the selection process feels unnecessary.
