what you see is a simplification/optimization of the app for routes in the low zoom level. Anyway I of course agree, that what happens to you is a little odd. Seems to be simplified too much and only in two places.
May I ask you to share your merged route with me as a GPX file? Hope I'll be able to simulate the same issue and check why this happens. Thanks.
