Question.
What is the extra data in description from Locus kmz files for?
It concerns in the file comparison image the red colored extras.

Hello Willy,

what you see are automatically generated descriptions in the points/tracks. Inner tags with "gen_desc..." are there to help import of the files back without importing also these generated texts.

Hope, that my explanation is clear.

Yep, Roger. I thought something like that for +/- 10 years.

But I did not see any advantage through the fatter Locus kmz or a slimmed down kmz.

The reason I am inquiring about this now is next.

- Under the moto slim is neater.

Recently I mentioned Locus as the better kmz_gpz reference example app in gps forums.
But imo it is not optimal that the Locus kmz contains data which is of no use to external apps.

Attached find the source gpz file converted by Locus into kmz plus the slimmed down kmz ;-)

If it is useful for Locus. Memory size no longer plays a role today.

Then I invite you to show me then also what exactly the advantage is. I am curious.

What is the difference in the Google Earth if you open KML from Locus with the mentioned extra tags and your version without it? (or unchecked "Export generated description" in the Locus export screen)

For import into GE it makes no difference.

GE is fine for flight shows but neither Pro nor GE web_mobile is optimal when transferring attachments. And this still shows the practical problem when using GE.

No working solution.

Only Locus offers this performantly. I report such in gps forums.
Through Locus extended data you transfer attachments easily.
Open the kml_kmz file and see how simple Locus handles this.
You so sure notice the “somewhat disturbing extra” in description.

When I recommend Locus anyway I remove what is unnecessary.
In advertising you show the “product” as neatly as possible, right ?
As I see no use by the extra, so I checked here, nothing more.
I thought @freischneider could demonstrate this so “curious”.
Anyway if you find it useful Menion then so be it. -End-

Note. Wat is attached is also not the Holy Grail to use in GE.

Sorry, I see a difference.

I asked. You explained. Excellent to know.

And to prevent the re-import of this generated description back to the app, Locus Map checks for these values and ignores the generated block during import.

You are welcome.

As genius as it may be conceived, I still prefer a description that contains only what the user wants in it. Can it not be offered as in the attached image ? And not only in exports as KLM/KMZ but also as GPX/GPZ ?

Hello Willy,

you are currently the only one who complains on this behavior. So, if you think you may convince more people, feel free to create a topic on this (isn't already on the help desk?). I personally currently do not have the will to change this very old behavior. Thanks for understanding.
