Importing custom icons - need a video tutorial with ALL steps!

I have poured over the internet trying to find a good, easily-understood tutorial - written or video - on how to import custom icons into Locus Map and have not been able to find one. Most are missing vital information (e.g., how to get to the icon directory) and most are in broken English. Locus Map has a YouTube channel and this would be a perfect opportunity to create a video tutorial on importing custom icons.

It's possible nobody is using the version I have (Locus Map Classic 3.70.15 - I bought it several years ago before Locus Map 4) and thus nobody has created a tutorial or instructions for importing custom icons. I love the app and use it all the time for hunting in North America. Certainly I'm not the only one still using Locus Map Classic.

Whatever the case, PLEASE create a step-by-step video tutorial on how to import custom icons. And please don't leave out any steps! Not everyone knows where to find directories or expert knowledge in all of the settings minutiae.

I do this often. All icons in one folder (96x96 .PNG). In my case labeled with Other.
Convert the folder into a zip and then move it to the Icons folder in the Locus folder.

Thanks, freischnieder! I saw those directions you linked to, but they don't really say HOW to get to the Icons folder.

I'm able to make the .png icons at 96x96 pixels, pack them into a zipped folder, and get them on my phone in the File Manager, but when I try to find the Icons on my phone it isn't there. I even tried making an Icons folder in the directory location I dictated in the instructions, but that didn't work either.

If I don't care how the icons are organized, do I have to create the .xml file? What about labeling the icons for size or anything else? If I don't care about that, do I have to follow that part of the instructions?

And why do you label your customized icons folder with Other? I'm assuming if I label it Hunting or Hiking or whatever else I want to label it, that'll be okay.

Looks like I have another response from another person with some instruction to connect my phone to the computer. That may be the step I'm missing in the process.

If I ever figure this out, I'm gonna make a video tutorial.

I'll let you know how it goes with all this new info.

Thanks!

You can also name the folder something else. I also have one with geocaching etc. The other answer with PC is exactly right

Hi James,

adding custom icons to the app is used by tens of our users (of the total cca 1 million). Therefore, we aren't planning to create a tutorial for this. Nevertheless, you wrote that you primarily need "missing vital information (e.g., how to get to the icon directory)". I've added a short hint to the article at https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:advanced:customization:icons. This regards Locus Map 4 though.

As you are still using Locus Map 3 Classic, the way to get to the /Locus/icons/ is more cumbersome (thanks to Android "security measures"):

- connect your phone to a PC with USB cable and allow data transfer

- copy your icon ZIP file to /Android/data/menion.android.locus.pro/files/locus/icons

- deactivate data transfer and disconnect the phone

- restart Locus Map

Thanks! I haven't hooked my phone up to my computer yet so I'll give that a try.

When I was tinkering around trying to get this to work with only the phone, I never did see a Files or Icons folder in the Locus Map directories. I only saw Maps and Maps Offline. Surely there are more subdirectories than that so perhaps the Files and Icons folders aren't visible on the phone but are visible when I hook it up to my computer.

I'll let you know how this worked for me.

Thanks!
