Battery drain when not used (in the background)

Marius Moldovan shared this problem 11 days ago
Not a Problem

I was looking battery consumption statistics from android setting and I found that Locus is always active in the background (even if I don't use the app in that day) and also there is a background internet traffic and the CPU is being used. That means battery drain when I am not using the app.

I attach a screenshot of android settings menu

Hi Marius,

do you turn off the app with two times "back" button?

The app normally consumes very little battery in the background. Unless you have a recording or navigation active. You can also close the app by pressing the back button twice.

I do not have navigation active or track recording.. Even I had restarted the android phone in the morning..so for sure Locus was turned off and I had checked many times in the day and closed all background applications from task manager

But still as you can see there is background usage

you have an automation active (Tasker, auto...). Under certain conditions, Locus is started automatically with such a tool.

Yes.. I have Locus Tasker installed and I think I have one scene in tasker regarding elevation..

Should I not use Locus Tasker?

What about the battery drain? According to your screenshot, the app took 3 minutes from the CPU and that's it...

0.7% of daily battery..but I had never used Locus yesterday, so why use 0.7% ?

Maybe some analytics launched, or automatic backup...

How to disable analytics report for Locus? Automatic backup was not done on that day...

Today also I have 0.3% battery drain from Locus with 12 hours background activity and 60 packets background traffic

Also.. I set Locus location permission to "Allow only while using the app" , but after checking Locus accessed location immediately after I had enabled location in settings and I had never opened Locus in the last days

Why is Locus not respecting location permission? Maybe it is periodically checking location in the background and this could be a reason for battery drain ?

It is difficult to declare why exactly this is happening. If you are concerned by the 0,3% of battery, go to the system settings > app battery usage and turn off "Allow background usage" for Locus Map. Nevertheless, I would be careful - each denied background permission may result in the app not functioning in the background when you need it - during track recording or navigation.

I know that if I put Locus on Optimize battery(instead of Unrestricted) then it will not function properly with track recording in the background or maybe navigation in background.. so I don't want to risk it.

It is that I have 250 apps on my phone and if everyone is taking 0.5-0.7% /day even when not using them... then I cannot make it through 1 day

@Michal do you have any ideea about "Why is Locus not respecting location permission? Maybe it is periodically checking location in the background and this could be a reason for battery drain ?" . I just want to optimize consumption :) I'm not stingy

If Locus Map seeks location even if no location-based feature is on, try this setting:
