Bug ? Dark Theme setting ignored when system dark mode is enabled
Not a Problem
Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble with the dark mode settings in Settings > Controlling > Display > Dark Theme.
I set this option to "Light", expecting Locus Map to always stay in light mode — even when my phone switches to dark mode. However, Locus Map still switches to dark mode when activate the dark mode at system level.
Tested with Locus 4.28.3 + Android 11 running MIUI.
Maybe it's just something related to MIUI ? (I already experienced some glitches with dark/light theme switching on some other apps with my phone)
Does somebody else experience the same behavior ?
Thanks in advance !
ChatGPT: On Xiaomi smartphones with MIUI 12 (based on Android 10), the feature to control Dark Mode per app was introduced. This allows you to choose which apps should use Dark Mode and which should not.
If you have an older MIUI version (e.g., MIUI 11), this option is not officially available. From MIUI 12 onwards, you can find it under:
Settings → Display → Dark Mode → Individual Apps
If you have a newer MIUI version (e.g., MIUI 14 or 15), this feature is still available but may be located slightly differently depending on the device.

If you want to control the dark mode in Locus, you should exclude Locus from dark mode in the system.

Hi,
Thanks for your help but there’s no per-app setting in Android system settings to say "this app should stay in light mode".
I assume it's preciselythe purpose of the Locus Map settings in "Settings > Controlling > Display > Dark Theme" ?

Thank you Freischneider! I wasn’t aware that MIUI offered such an option (I have MIUI 12) - it works great. Thanks a lot! Quite strange that the Locus map setting isn't effective, but I guess it's related to how MIUI manages the dark mode compared to Android native behavior.

The MIUI dark mode behaves quite aggressively towards apps, and in many cases, it can override standard dark mode preferences. Therefore, it is recommended to exclude Locus Map from the MIUI dark mode and use Locus Map's own dark mode.

Got it, thanks for the clarification Michal ! Indeed I already experienced weird behavior with MIUI + dark mode on some other apps.
