Geocaching: Improve translation of Listing, Hint, Logs
Locus has already implemented some basic features to translate Gegocaching Listings, Hints and logs to another language. Even the use of offline translation using offline language files of the translation apps is possible. But I think they have to be improved to provide comfortable translation feature:
1) Use one-click translation per menu-entry (= without the need for copy & paste of text sequences). This is possible for Hints and Logs but not for Listing so far.
2) Allow using of a prefered translation app, like "Deepl" or "Google translate". Right now all "translate" clicks opens "Google translate" although "Deepl" is installed too.
3) Combined with idea 1), automatically transfer and paste the whole texts of Listings, Hints, Logs to the translate app. Right now for Hints and Logs just "Google translate" opens, but without any pasted text.
Hello Sonny,
thanks for this idea. Seems that the translation no longer works as Google Translate really opens empty. The code I wrote is not officially supported, it was some kind of "hack" that seems to be no longer working.
The correct solution is to send a "Handle this text" request to the system, and the user then has to pick a translation app.
So the solution I see is to really use a generic "Handle this text" method. To make it work better for frequent use, I've now added an option to manually specify the "Translation app" in the Expert settings. It's support needs to be hardcoded in the app, so only two options are available for now. More on request.
And the listing > it is more problematic. Isn't better open listing in the web browser and let the browser translate it correctly?
