external GNSS Garmin Forerunner 230 is connected but not finding 1 satellite
Answered
Hello.
I downloaded the Locus Map application 4.29.0 (I subscribed to SILVER), then I downloaded and bought "Garmin for Locus Map".
Locus Map sees my watch, but not my watch's GPS signal.
If I go to the satellite signal on the map and turn on the external GNSS (Forerunner 230) it doesn't find a single satellite...nothing, so navigation doesn't work either.
The phone's GPS is not the real one, so I wanted to see it with my watch's GPS in Locus Map, but nothing.
I managed to select a point on the map so that the watch could guide me there, but when I turn off the phone's GPS, the watch doesn't detect progress.
What can I do to solve this?
Hi Adorján, addon developer here.
Garmin addon is actively used by lots of Locus Map users. If you don't find it useful, of course it might be worthless for you.
There are several use-cases how to utilize the Garmin app based on users preference, as described in the manual. That is why it can utilize either phone GPS or watch GPS. Or both in the same time.
1) The app can be used for quick imports of tracks from phone to watch (not supported by your watch).
2) The app can show data provided by Locus Map in the phone (both navigation or data from activity recording) - that uses phone GPS.
3) The app can record activity just as you are used by its native Garmin applications, this method saves activity directly to Garmin Connect. This uses watch GPS (it have to). This behavior is used when you want to record your activity via Garmin ecosystem but occasionally want to see other data, like guidance from Locus Map in phone. (Both GPS utilized.)
4) Garmin Locus Map app never sends real-life location retrieved by the watch to the phone, nor control activity recording in the phone.
There is free version of the addon, so that users can make informed decision if it is worth those 3euros. In case you would still require to refund your payment, please send us private support ticket stating your email under which you purchased it.
BTW, thanks for the picture. Great to see the app still running on such old device with only 64kB memory available for the whole app including its code! :-)

Hi,
Garmin watch doesn't send location data over Bluetooth, so it's not possible to use it as an external GNSS. Nevertheless, Locus Map registers the watch as any other ordinary BT device so you can connect it to the app but without any visible signal. Garmin add-on can only monitor Locus Map's activity running on the mobile phone. More at https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:add-ons:locusforgarmin#main_features.
