3D compass Monterra

My Garmin Monterra has a 3D compass. The built in Garmin app perfectly rotates the compass and map in any (also vertical) position of the device towards where the back of it is pointing. The Locus compass and map screens jump continually in all directions and clearly have no idea in what direction the back of the device is facing. Hardware compass setting in Locus is on.

Any solution?

Hello Marc,

interesting that compass do not work correctly in Locus. May you for example try another app that display compass values, like GPS Status? Thanks.

Anyway even if GPS status will work correctly, I'm worried, I'll not have any simple solution for you now. Locus use only documented and recommended functions from Google and I do not have any reported problems with compass in Locus except this.

It apparently is not only Locus. Installed a compass app (compass by gabernative) and it shows the same behaviour as Locus: compass or direction line jumps back and forth when holding Monterra in more or less vertical position.

On the other hand: OsmAnd+ maps and a 2nd installed compass app (Smart Compass by Smart Tools Co.) rotate correctly when holding device in vertical position: the correct bearing for the back of the device is shown continuously. They do follow the 3D compass.

ALL tested with both GPS on and off and standing still of course.

(Sorry for errors against the English language if any: it's not my native tongue.)

Ah vertical ... and in horizontal - when you lay you device on desk? All works as expected? It should.

(English is really not a problem here, we are on same boat :) )

My initial post was not very clear indeed.

I should have explicitly stated that the problem is in vertical position ONLY.

Sorry for the confusion.

Ah "only"! Oki. Then I may only confirm, that code I wrote really works ONLY in horizontal position. Sorry. There is currently no solution for this.
