Track recording looses GPS position

Walther Schubert shared this problem 20 days ago
Not a Problem

Since awhile track recording quite often looses GPS position, allthough the sky view shows a lot of satellites. I have to switch off and on GPS in Locus. Recording resumes, but with a straight line from the last known position.

All settings are unchanged ( Battery optimisation off, ...).

I noticed this issue since about January, using Locus on this phone since two years without javing any issues.

Hi,

please get Locus Map permission for all-time access to the location and exclude Locus Map from all means of battery optimization so that the app can run in the background, see http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:gps_lost_fix_android6. Also, switch Google Services assisted location off in Locus settings - GPS&sensors.

As said, I never changed these settings: locaton always allowed, battery optimisation off, Google off. What more?

Can I provide any debug logs or the stuff?

It's probably the phone. The S24 has had a bug since Android 16. https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=9452.30

OK, thanks. That's bad news..

Did SAMSUNG communicate anything if what the navis should change to accomodate the changed behaviour?

I had the same problem today. Locus lost GPS when screen was off, even when toggling between apps. Battery optimization is turned off. Phone is Pixel 9a, never had any issues before. Both Locus and system update might have happened since the last recording was made a last Tuesday.

I ask an AI and got the following advice:

Reset Google Play Services (very important!)

This is THE most common fix for this exact problem:

πŸ‘‰ Settings β†’ Apps β†’

Google Play Services

β†’ Storage β†’ Clear all data

Then:

Restart

Re-enable location once

πŸ‘‰ This forces the system to rebuild the location stack.

Today I recorded an 8.5 km walk without any glitches and dropouts.

I did clear all data in Google play services but the I can't get the recording working again

It was a permission issue in my case. Locus somehow lost the right for getting location in the background. (Did not try the "reset play services" method.)

Today 5 km walk without GPS drop. Seems to be stable now.

Finally got it working again after Clear all data in Google play services. Unfortunately from my point of view this was only a fix that did not last.

Recording track was working for little less than two hours. Then the problem was back. Track and speed stops. By start stop I get it going again and but stops soon after Totally unreliable

I have a Samsung S24 Android version 16

Hi Michael

I agree and I have reported the problem to Samsung support.

Will be interesting to see if they manage to do anything about it.

Maybe the fact that GPS tracking is working again now is due to the Android update I carried out a couple of days ago.

People in the above cited forum thread reported this as well.

So not clearing Google Play services did the trick, but the Android update.
