incorrect elevation data

I recently changed my phone

I recorded a track during an hike and I got 14,25km elevation +1191 - 1179m

that for me was clearly overestimated

I loaded the same gpx file in mapy.cz and it's giving me 14,2km +919 -919m

Same gpx in Wikiloc 14,23km +716 -716m

The more realistic data is about +-800m so wikiloc and mapy are approximately correct.

Why locus is overestimating in such a way the elevation data it shows me?

Settings are

setup->settigns->gps&sensors->altitute manager

altitude offset automatic correction

elevation data optimize GPS values

altitude filter light

track recording->recording profile

parameters

distance interval 10m

time interval 10s

distance and time

required gps accuracy 100m

Hi,

Locus Map processes elevation gain from the data it receives from your phone's GPS. The resulting elevation gain is also incorrect if the data is incorrect or contains huge deviations. Locus Map, however, offers a few methods to limit these deviations.

Open Locus settings > GPS&sensors:

  • Location filter > select medium or heavier filter
  • Google Services assisted location > turn it off
  • Altitude manager > settings tab > Elevation data - select "Optimize GPS values" or "Replace GPS values"
  • Altitude manager > settings tab > Pressure sensor > turn ON (if available)
  • Altitude manager > settings tab > Altitude filter - select medium or heavier filter

Ok, so is it the GPS sensor of my new phone too sensible?

Why the same gpx I created loaded in mapy or wikiloc gives more realistic elevation?

I did all the changes in settings you suggested, I went on my library, selected the track, tools, update elevation and.... nothing changes in the details of the track

"Why the same gpx I created loaded in mapy or wikiloc gives more realistic elevation?"

- the track elevation gain is recalculated by the digital model of the terrain used by the service. Each digital model is generalized, i.e. the terrain is smoothed compared to reality.

"I did all the changes in settings you suggested, I went on my library, selected the track, tools, update elevation and.... nothing changes in the details of the track"

- the changes affect the elevation gain during track recording. It doesn't affect a saved track. If you need to replace the measured values with elevation data (similar to the ones Mapy or Wikiloc use), open the track detail and select "Update elevation" in the tool menu (more info: https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php/manual:user_guide:tracks:about#tools)

With reference to last point

*If you need to replace the measured values with elevation data (similar to the ones Mapy or Wikiloc use), open the track detail and select "Update elevation" in the tool menu*

It is exactly what I did but nothing changes to the previous elevation of the track

You can do one more thing - adjust the altitude threshold for the elevation gain of the track. Open its detail, tap the pencil (edit) in the toolbar and increase the altitude threshold. The default is 3m which means that Locus Map bypasses all ascents up to 3m high. Such "hills" are imperceptible on a hike, especially when not steep. You can increase the value to bypass higher hills. More info: https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php/manual:faq:wrong_gps_data#custom_altitude_threshold

Got a change! Very strange however this is the only way...

even if I set "replace GPS values" I didn't get any change updating elevation of the saved track. Nearly seems that updating is not working... there should be a difference in setting "don't use/optimize/replace" but if I change settings and then update nothing changes...
