Adding photo point crashes Locus

Svjetlana shared this problem 5 years ago
Solved

Hi,

During track recording I press REC button and Add point (photo). The camera app appears and I make a photo. On the next screen in Locus I confirm to save the point/photo. When I press save button, Locus crashes and exits every time. I tried to change to another camera app, but the problem remains. The photos taken, I can find in data/media/photo.

My phone is new Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, Android 9, MIUI 10. Locus 3.42.0.

Dear Svejtlana.

Can i ask you to create a log and send me it?

Thank you.

Dear Adela,

Here are bug reports, one when Locus crashed, and the other one when I restarted Locus. Here is also the recorded truck that caused the crash. Note that the second photo point (which is not visible) invoked the problem.

Hi,

I have been further playing with taking photo points during track recording today. It seems that I have discovered what caused the problem.

I have always, in the past, on other phones, been taking photo points in the landscape orientation of the screen/phone. After shutting a photo, I would tap OK in the camera app and afterwards I would tap SAVE in Locus. All of those taps I would be doing in the landscape orientation.

This evening, I took 20-30 photos and taped OK in the landscape mode, and taped Locus SAVE in PORTRAIT mode - no problem/crash.

It seems that combination of this new phone and SAVE in Portrait mode causes the problem.

Although, by this workaround I can make now photo points, I wonder If there is solution for this Locus behavior ?

Hello Svjetlana,

thank you for the precise bug report and sorry for the troubles with this feature. I see clearly in the log problem, I face last months and still found no solution on how to fix it. At the moment, you confirm a new point and return to the main map screen, app crash with a report that "main screen is not ready to use". If you meanwhile rotate by device, the main screen completely refreshes and it works ok.

May you try to enable "Run Locus Map as service" in app settings > misc, if it makes a difference?

Hi Menion,

Thank you for your quick response. When I first noticed the problem, I tried to solve it by enabling "Run Locus Map as service". Unfortunately, no success. For the time being, it seems the only workaround is Saving the photo point in the Portrait orientation of the phone.

Hello Svjetlana,

this one is quite complicated I have to say and also quite important (because I have few more similar anonymous reports, but was never able to find out why this happen).

Anyway, I believe I've found the reason why this happens. Are you able to test a Beta version? If not, please wait on the next official version at the start of next year and let me know if it helped. Thanks.

Hi Menion,

Thanks for your efforts on solving this. I am presently on a business trip (for a month) and I took with me my old phone. So, I am unable to make the test. However, as soon as I return home (somewhere mid of January), I will make the testing and report the findings to you.

Hi Menion,

I am back from the trip, have installed the latest official version, 3.43.0. and made the testing. A friend on mine did the testing too, on another Xiaomi phone - Xiaomi mi9 lite (Android 9, MIUI 10).

I can confirm now that there are no crashes any more, it works as expected and that the problem is solved.

Once again, thank you very much for your support.
