When I add a Point on the map, it uses my current location, not the map center

When browsing the map for a location, after a few seconds it snaps back to my current location. When I turn off the "center" button in the lower left-hand corner, this is fixed. But when I then try to "Create point on map" it uses my current location rather than the location of the center of the map. Can you please advise how to change this?
