Auto-Screen Lock when display off

Ingo Rau shared this idea 6 years ago
Completed

When hiking, it's tedious to unlock the phone with PIN or whatever everytime I take it out of my pocket. So I set Locus to disable all screen locks ("disable basic screen lock" is obviously not enough.

Now, however, it happens that my phone gets turned on in my pocket (movement easily pushes the power button), which leads to unwanted operations on the screen. So I turn on the screen lock. For just checking my position, that's enough - but once I need to zoom etc., I need to turn off the screen lock. Which is ok, but now I often forget to turn it on again before putting the phone away.

My idea:

Possibility to set Screen Lock to "Auto on when display is turned off".

Alternative idea:

Add broadcast (https://github.com/asamm/locus-api/wiki/Action-tasks-(Broadcasts)) "screen_lock". Then activating the screen lock could be easily done with Tasker.

Hello Ingo,

oki, give it a try (in next version): https://github.com/asamm/locus-api/wiki/Action-tasks-(Broadcasts)#screen_lock

Works like a charm, thx!

Hmm perfect. I was worried that new system with JSON etc. will be complicated and nobody will be able to use and seems reality is completely different :).

Can you please add it as an option in preferences? I'm having the same issue but wouldn't like to install Tasker only for this purpose. The less 3rd party software, the better.

Hello,

I'm not 100% sure it is needed function but agree it may be useful. So in the next 3.45, this toggle will be available in the "Expert settings".

Should the Locus block the phone? To save energy, simply turn off the screen. And blocking your phone will only depend on your phone settings. For example, you can lock your phone immediately after the screen is turned off, or for a while after it is turned off. I think this is a more flexible setting than "lock only". Moreover, the Locus on a locked phone when trying to enter data from the keyboard goes into "flashing" mode, which is almost impossible to stop.

I suggest that you do not block the phone from the locus, but only turn off the screen.

Vyacheslav, you misunderstood this function: It's about Locus' "Screen Lock", which means that Locus is active and running, but you can't activate any buttons or functions. This is practical eg. with gloves, where you want to have a look at the map but not by accident press any buttons.

It's got nothing to do with Android' screen lock.

Excuse me. You are right when it comes to turning off the screen with a phone button. But if you use the remote control to turn off the screen, the phone is blocked.

Sorry, again, this thread is not about any kind of screen lock/block of Android, it's only about Locus switching to the "Screen Lock" mode after the screen is turned off (no matter whether it's locked or not). There's a button (lower right, I think) where you can manually set this Locus Screen Lock.

we are talking about blocking the phone and turning off the screen. The concept of screen lock does not exist. And Yes, we are only talking about the locus.

Gergy is right. The concept of "Screen Lock" does exist within Locus.

Sorry, Vyacheslav, I started the thread, and I know what I was talking about ;)

Thank you very much, Menion. That was an incredibly quick reaction :-)

Looking forward to having this feature in the upcoming version.
