Avoid turning off display or just don't turn off gps when display goes off - Galaxy Active Watch 2

Hello,

While biking I often need to look at my smartwatch to choose right path. I'm using Galaxy Active Watch 2 and problem is that after waking up display (Locus Map Pro is running - phone and watch) there is always 5 to 15 seconds time window with no GPS location and no current possition. During waiting, display usually goes off and I have to wave with my arm to turn it on again... Especially on the bike it is very uncomfortable.

On smartwatch there isn't much options in settings, I tried some settings on my phone, for example start app like a service but it doesn't seem to work.

Locus Map Pro (on smartwatch) obviously totally ignore the screen timeout I set to 5 minutes, this would partly solve this...

Does anyone have some idea how to solve this?

I'm using Galaxy S8 (Android 9) and Galaxy Active Watch 2 (Tizen 4.0.0.7)

Thanks a lot!

Hello Petr,

fact that you have to wait a few seconds is most probably caused by the fact, that Locus Map does not keep GPS enabled. It is because it is not needed by any service, right? In case, you do not have active navigation, track recording or something like this, GPS is turned off when Locus Map is hidden.

Every possible solution will cause increased battery usage, so it is a little hard to help here. In case, the battery is not so important for you, then simply use track recording and GPS will be always on when you turn the screen on.

Fact that app on the watch ignores some screen settings is not known to us, but because we currently miss a developer on watches, we can't test it precisely, sorry.

Not sure if I helped, anyway feel free to ask if something is not clear.

Hello,

it's wierd that Locus Map doesn't use GPS while display is off, because at the same time I'm using Strava for tracking my ride, so GPS should be on.

In my case battery is not the problem (so far). Your solution to record track in Locus Map is working perfectly so I will stick with that. Hope that you find some developer for Tizen OS watches because there is no better map application than Locus at the time.

Thanks a lot / děkuju

Hello Petr,

imagine that apps work quite independently, so fact that one uses GPS does not mean, second have access to it as well.

Also, Locus Map tries to be as battery friendly as possible.

Have a nice day and stay healthy ;)
