Blend modes

There are a lot of blend modes in the overlay dialog. I've been looking for an explanation of what they do, but I couldn't find any. At a glance, many of them seem to do the exact same thing, some don't seem to do what you would expect form the name, and some other just produce a black screen...


I guess they may work differently if the top/bottom map is raster or vector, but to test myself all the combination would take forever... could you post a brief explanation of the various blend modes?

Hello,


"Map overlay" feature is working nice, but I agree that UI for control is really stupid and overcomplicated.


Please check this page https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_tools:overlays#set_visibility_and_blend_mode - where is very short list of modes that are interesting and useful. Rest should be removed as it has no effect in Locus.

Don't remove other blending modes, please.


[CZ] Prosím neodstraň ostatní módy. Často používám např. mód DARKEN nebo LIGHTEN, když chci dvě mapy přes sebe (např. http://www.imghosting.cz/images/92Screenshot_2014_05_11_.png používá mód DARKEN). Někdy používám i další módy - podle charakteru map.

They really have any effect? I'm quite surprised. Because I've tested them some time ago, and had same experience as Giacomo - all (almost) were almost same.

Yes, especially in combination with transparency.


[CZ] Např. mód DARKEN znamená, že se "položí" obě vrstvy na sebe a výsledkem bude pro každý pixel ten tmavší z obou vrstev. Ideální např. v případě, kdy mám poměrně světlou mapu s tmavými detaily (texty, čáry apod.) a chci ji zkombinovat s mapou, která je tvořená barevnými plochami nějakých oblastí. Výsledek pak je, že v původní mapě se obarví se zvolenou intenzitou (dle nastavené průhlednosti) světlá místa a tmavá zůstanou beze změny. Když je zase překryvná mapa světlá... Prostě módy mi fungují celkem dle očekávání (Android 4.1).

Guys, I'll be happy to participate in the discussion, but my Czech is a little rusty (I mean, I don't know a single word!). Google Translate helps... but only a little... :-)


Anyhow, from Menion answer I deduce that all the blending modes come straight from some library, and have not been directly coded by him? Is there a name/documentation for such library?

Anyway it's not external library, it's just one of graphics features of Android. More about it is only here http://developer.android.com/reference/android/graphics/PorterDuff.Mode.html
