Calculate german Bundeswasserstraßenkilometers (bwastr-km) from given position via WSV-REST-service

German Waterways are organized / devided in kiloters an hectometers. To know them is interesting for people navigating on and beside german waterways (people dealing witt Inland Waterway Transport - de:Binnenschifffahrt). You can visualize them e.g. via a web map service, the the german waterways authority (http://www.wsv.de) provides (see [1], user the following client there (or locus ;-): [2]) .

But WSV also provides a REST service, everyone can use in apps. Asked in the right way (german documentation [3] the service e.g. gives you the station (kilometer, waterway-ID, distance to waterway axis) of your actual / a given GPS-coordinate or the next waterways within a given radius.

--> The idea is to make locus more interesting for the above mentioned people with enabling locus to deal with this REST service. An _example_ mobile site, with has this already implemented is [4].

It has two functions:

1. "Stationierung" shows you all relevant german waterway stations in a range of 5km (use fake-GPS for testing it - e.g. in Berlin @ Berlin Hauptbahnhof - 52.5250839,13.369402). You get a list of the stations and can copy or share them. (Example request for a single waterway station)

2. In "Zielführung" you have to choose a waterway (The service give you the list and the possible km-range for each waterway-ID) and a kilometer. The mobile client (as Locus could do in the future) shows you a vector to get there.

Good day germangeo,

thank you for precisely created idea. I have to say that here already was a few ideas that were strictly focused on features around "water navigation". Because we try to specialize Locus more on "hike & bike" features, I usually decline these ideas.

In this case it looks need for some service that will communicate with wsv web server and dynamically display it's information on a map, right? I'm worried, as well as in mentioned cases, that such feature is also focused just of sailing or just river navigation and it's out of scope of Locus application. Thanks for understanding.

Hello Menion,

thanks for your instant comment. I understand and accept your opinion as I am using Locus myself for years now - and i love it :-) - for hiking , geocaching and biking.

There was still some land-based use for the idea: people working at the WSV or companies working for the WSV often need to get to a position based on the waterway station used by WSV - using waterway-ID, waterway-km and distance from waterway axis. E.g.: do your job @ the building "some name" at Donau km 2224.3 - 2224.2, distance 235.3m axis distance. For those people it could be interesting on the land.

Hello,

understand, anyway it's still some quite specific use-case. What about some option to export such points into simple GPX/KML file. Isn't there such option? Such file may be imported and used in Locus easily without need to write some service for downloading these information over offered REST service.
