Cannot save maps for offline use
Answered
Hi there,
Having trouble saving maps from Locus store to my SD card. Using Locus Pro on android 4.2.2.
The app says map has to be in
/storage/sdcard0/Locus/maps
in order to appear in offline maps list. However when I download maps from the Locus store, they are saved to locations like:
internal/Locus/mapsOnline/custom or
internal/Locus/mapsVector/europe;
and therefore never appear in the list.
Is there a way how to select a correct download location on my SD card?
Also, my phone memory (internal) is very limited and I am not able to save bigger maps, like Czech Republic LoMaps, because of this issue.
Any idea, please?
Thanks!
Jan

Hello Jan,
I don't know the device you use. But often is the /storage/sdcard0 located in internal memory and the external SDcard has path as extSdcard, sdcard1, etc. But back to your question.
The possibilities how to use external SDcard depends on version of Android system. Please Solution C in article http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:use_sdcard_on_kitkat
You can move maps manually from internal to sdcard and the add them into Locus as external maps. Please see http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_external

Hello Petr,
Thanks for the workaround. Solved it by moving the app from phone's internal memory to my sd card (using my phone's built-in app manager) and then setting the root directory to
/storage/sdcard1/Android/data/menion.android.locus.pro/files
from within the Locus app (Settings >Miscellaneous > Set Root directory)
However, it would be nice if Locus could ask me to select download location each time I download from the Locus store. It is not an android or phone model issue because my app from Mapy.cz does exactly this. Much user friendly.
Thanks a lot for otherwise wonderful app!

Hello Jan,
such solution is possible but please note that all content in /storage/sdcard1/Android/data/menion.android.locus.pro (maps, settings, etc) is removed when you decide to uninstall the Locus application.
Thank you also for idea, I would vote for it. Or at least for some similar feature. But such approach is possible when you have one type of
map in your app because you can download map again and again. But this is different with Locus. Some maps are charged, some maps can be downloaded only once and next downloading is charged again. Users can very quickly lost some data because they uninstall the app. This the main reason why we don't suggest to use mentioned folder on the SDcard and why is complicated to offer feature you suggested.
