Speed stability in Locus for use in car

Hello, I wanted to see if anyone has used locus as car GPS Navigator?

I just tried to activate the gps, no navigation nor route record, only activate the GPS as to see the data of the current speed (in the sky view screen, is the current speed data).

I was surprised that it is not a really very stable, going at a constant speed, the speed shown on screen varied.

I also noticed a delay in indiquar 0 speed when the car stopped. He still indicating a speed although the car was stopped.

On the other hand, shows no speed 0, but rather displays "unknown", I think this may be because only activate the GPS and the route was not recording.

Something must be doing something wrong or I have not properly configured. What would be the correct way to see the current speed at which the car will steadily without recording the route? There is something to configure?

Android 2.3.4, Samsung Ace (root, but the original ROM)

Offline Map, OSM .map made with OSMOSIS.

Sorry for my english, google translate :).

Hello Tigus,

you probably know that GPS system isn`t too precise. This may be visible mainly if you move at lower (foot) speeds. Anyway when you ride a car, speed should be very stable, mainly if you have better GPS accuracy.

You wrote that "speed was not too stable". What this mean? If you ride 90 km/h, I expect to keep these values +- max 5 km/h, maybe less. Track record or anything other do not have influence on this. Speed in satellite screen, is just raw value received from GPS.

So in general, speed value really depend on quality of signal and also on quality of your received.

Hello, Menion. Thanks for responding.

Maybe it`s a problem receiving the device, it may not be the best in GPS reception ... would have to try another program to see if I have the same symptom.

I noticed that compared to a Garmin Nuvi 1300 I have not had those data changes (anyway we are talking about another device / hardware).

It will be useful if the test record the track so you can view the data?

I ask out of ignorance of how the software works that use GPS:

The speed "snapshot" or current, the locus calculated based on the latitude and longitude that gives the gps? or GPS gives speed information?

Regards

Edit:

What I have noticed is a delay in determining speed above 0, ie, detect that it has stopped.

Going on a bus to test, spent about 4 seconds or more from the bus stopped and Locus still indicated speed.

Hello, I use Locus for car navigation (but unfortunately my mobile is not very powerful). I think a certain delay is normal, because

- inacuracy that menion described

- some car navigation systems (gps receiver chips) handle the "static navigation" in different ways

- speed is a calculation of distance divided by time and the calculation can only be done after measuremend of the gps data (which is only done once a second by some gpx receivers)

- compared with the speed on the tachimeter of the car the Locus value is slightly less (5-10%), because a cars speed indicator is not allowed to show less speed than real speed.
