Centering to the current position does not work

radek shared this problem 12 years ago
Solved

Centering the map to the current position does not work on my Vodafone 858. When I tap the respective icon, Locus centers the map to a position which seems random to me and has no relation to my actual position. (Strangely enough, track recording works very accurately and without any problem...)

Hello Radku,

is centering also not work during track record? Also, when you have enabled GPS (you see blue circle on map), is map centering on this blue circle?

Hi,

yes, centering works during track recording.

I do not see a blue circle on the map when I have GPS enabled - I see it only when I am recording a track. (And when recording, the map centers correctly to the blue circle.)

then this is probably main problem. When GPS is disabled in Locus (you see no blue circle), then Locus is centering on location obtained from cell-id. Just very inaccurate locations ...

tap on GPS icon in top bar and then on bottom "My location". This will enable Locus to receive GPS location. Then after a while, you should see green circle (inaccurate location from cell-id) and later also blue circle. Locus will be centering on these circles

I am aware of the "My location" button and I always tapped it a few minutes before I tried to center to my position.

I use Locus on my bike trips and the only reason of my problem that I can think of is that whenever I tried centering, there maybe was only a weak GPS signal (deep forrests :)) and cell id was used instead... I never saw a circle of any color when I was not recording, eventhough I had enabled "My location" beforehand.

I will try it on some place with a strong signal.

Thanks for your answers.

Hi Radku,

this is really weird.

so step by step:

1. when you enable "My Location" button in GPS screen, then GPS icon on your main screen should change color to orange (no GPS FIX and green circle on map) and then later also on green (GPS FIX with blue circle on map).

2. also check settings of your android device. It`s somewhere in system under "Location" item (or shortcut from here http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manu... - button 4). There are two items, so both should be enabled (to receive BTS and also GPS location).

I`ll send you some screenshot or video if there will be still problem, to check where is main issue
