Compatiable Maps for Locus Pro "Map Overlay" Feature?

mrthom1 shared this question 10 years ago
Answered

In looking at the Backcountry Navigator app I see that various USA State BLM

Boundary Maps for public lands are being offered for sale.

Does anyone know if these maps are compatible with LOCUS PRO and can be used in the "Right Panel>Modify Panel>Map Overlay" feature?

If not does anyone know of a source where I may obtain such maps that could be used in the Locus Map Overlay feature?

Thanks

Hi,

we were also looking on these maps. But just looking. Depend on format these maps have. Do you know more about it? For example if it`s real raster map, or just some GPX file with points and lines etc? Locus can read directly Backcountry tiles, so if it`s in same format as rest maps that BCNav use, it should not be too big problem to add support for "overlaying" also for these maps (you cannot select BCNav maps as overlay in latest version)

Hello,

The BLM Boundary maps appear as an overlay on your chosen map of various transparent rectangles for each area. Different colors are used to indicate the various land-use formats.

I do not know the actual file format of the BLM Bounday maps. That is why I posted the question.

I did find this in one of the BCN webpages. It appears that it is in the " data.PNG" format.

From: " http://support.crittermap.com/entries..."

"For example:

The Colorado BLM map is somewhere like:

sdcard/iap/downloads/BackCountry Navigator PRO/bcn_c_blm_co/data.png"

I just may purchase one set to see if Locus will recognize it correctly.

Thanks

Hi,

thank you for detailed information! Unfortunately I have to say that this feature is not so important for us.

Anyway if you already have some BLM maps and if are you able to provide for us, we can check the format.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I was not asking for the feature to be added. I personally believe that a feature should NOT be added if it is just for one person.

I do not have the BLM Boundary map sets and was inquiring if anyone knew if the particular map set would function correctly in Locus Pro.

I may purchase just one set and give it as try as I prefer to use Locus Pro over any of the other amps apps. If not that no an issue.

For my purposes it is an important feature as we have a lot of BLM land and private land intermixed. Many of the private land owners get VERY upset if strangers are hiking on their property.

Hello Petr,

I have purchased one BLM Boundary mapset. The files I have are:

"data.tmd" & "data.tmd-journal.

If you think it may be usable or can be converted to a usable format with LOCUS Pro I would be willing to email the complete file folder to you for review. If compatibility it is not possible,

Thanks for you assistance.
