Dashboard navigation functions

Gathering feedback

I am trying to set up a cycle computer that has minimal energy use. That means all black (as I have an AMOLED screen) other than key information.

Currently I can't access the Centre on Position button (bottom left of default map screen) or the Next Direction graphic (top left of default screen when navigating somewhere). If I had those, then I could alternate between a screen giving me statistics plus directions and one showing local map (for when I get lost). A quick way to me between those two dashboards would also be handy.

Any chance they might find their way into v4 of the app?

Hi,

your idea makes perfect sense. Anyway, to make it really fully working, there are two missing key features.

  1. Mentioned "navigation" and "center" button
  2. But also the option to add map as a part of the dashboard and not Dashboard as an overlay

Because in your case, the app still draws a whole map, even in parts covered by a black background. This saves some power caused by the display but should save a lot more if Locus Map renders only visible area.

Dashboard definitely miss some essential features and needs improvements, but sorry, can't promise anything regards this topic now.

No problem. If you have added it to your undoubtedly enormous To Do list then I'm happy. Thanks for the response.

Now that we have the (excellent) Locus 4, might the guidance and map centre icon be added as possible cell sources? My battery life is critical when I'm cycling all day following a route, so having a 90% black screen is important. Plus the workaround of leaving holes in my dashboard to allow me to see the default position of those icons is far from beautiful!

FWIW my workaround to all day cycling while minimizing battery consumption is to have a display timeout of 5s (via Tasker task). For me this is more reliable than using gestures.

To save battery on the bike I use a BT button. So I can turn on the screen from the handlebar.
