Delete section from within track

It's easy to delete the beginning/end of a track from before/after a point. But I can't find an easy way to delete a section from within, only single points. Am I missing something?
Of course I can split the track, delete the section from any part, and then merge again - but that's tedious, and also not exactly the same, as the merged tracks have a gap.

Same with "add more trackpoints in a row".
But improve "edit track"-function is already a part of huge wishlist long time ago :)
