Difference between "Waypoints" and "Waypoints"

Hello

If I set a "waypoint" within Locus (which appears under Points/POIs), I assume, that this one is "recognized" for the setting "Control on/off screen", "Turn On when notify on waypoint".

If a point is defined with CDATA within a GPX Trackfile, is that also "recognized" bei the screen setting?

Is it possible to activate the screen also on these points?

Does anybody knows, which program can be used for creating a GPX track file with these CDATA points inside?

Thanks

???

The GPX format is a special type of an XML document. In XML you have so called elements. If you need to use special characters (such as < and &) in XML elements, you must put them inside the sequence "<![CDATA[" ...... "]]>" which tells the XML parser not to parse this (see http://www.w3schools.com/xml/xml_cdat...). In other words: it is not a "special" waypoint, it is just the way how Locus saves the waypoints. Every application which works with GPX files should be able to understand it and remove the sequence "<![CDATA[" ...... "]]>" when loading the file.

If you don`t use special characters in waypoint names/comments etc., you can remove the sequences from your GPX file in any text editor and the GPX file should behave absolutly the same way like if you didn`t.

Hello Celda

???, you are right. I do not know, what I wrote.

So next try...(after reading something about GPX files)

In a GPX File you can define Trackpoints (trkpt) and Waypoints (wpt).

Which programm exports a GPX file after planning which includes a Track and some special Waypoints?

Is it possible for Locus to "detect" the waypoints in the GPX file for display activation and to read the title of the Waypoint with TTS for example?

Hope this time you can understand me better.

Thanks

Celda, thanks for perfect explanation for Joachim

I think, now all is clear. Anyway I have to say, you found quite a weak place in Locus. I fully understand what you need and absolutely agree, that such feature should be very useful, unfortunately Locus isn`t now capable, to do it.

In case, you want to know about close waypoints, I suggest to enable POI Alert feature http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:poi_alert , that is able to notify on close points (currently it do not read the names)

There is plan to improve navigation/guiding in locus, so I`ll keep in mind also this feature

Hi Joachim,

I do use program GPS Prune and then export to .gpx file including the trackpoints and Waypoints. (UTF 8 works for me). I can plan if necessary some extra trackpoints (visible trackdots on the map) with this program. Use: duplicate trackpoint, then -> Edit Waypoint name. It leaves the trackrun(line) as original, keeping the original trackpoint(s) but adds now extra Waypoint(s) with the naming information. Using Gps Prune, I do have no further knowledge of xml/gpx or how this works in detail ;-)

Your second question...I think Locus (Menion) is working on this, at least I hope so.

Lets be patient. ;-)

Willy.
