Different tones for GPS lock-on (upbeat) and GPS loss (downbeat)

Locus currently uses the same "beep" for GPS lock-on as GPS loss. Except at first acquistion, and if you are certain of previous GPS state, this doesn't tell you whether the GPS is OK or not - only that it has changed state. This is especially relevant when tracking, etc, with app in background and screen off. Would it be too difficult to use two tones, the current upbeat one for GPS gain and a different, lower, minor or downbeat tone for GPS loss? It should be possible to stick to single-frequency tones rather than multi-frequency chords. Ask a musician to for a good note to contrast with the current one.

Good day Richard,

did you considered using custom sounds for such notifications? You may download a lot of mp3 sound files on internet and they may be used as notifications directly. I believe it is a better solution then extending of complicated Locus notification settings for an extra option - sound tone.

Hi Menion

I've not considered installing custom sounds as an option - I would not have any idea how to start to go about it!  So obviously I cannot agree with you when you suggest that this might be a "better solution".

I am certainly not suggesting any extension to Locus notification settings or options.  I agree, these are complicated and extensive, but I find them logical, constructive and functional.  I am proposing that, if it is not too difficult, the basic out-of-the-box Locus Free comes preset and preloaded with the current high "beep" notification sound for GPS acquisition, and a lower "boop" sound tone for GPS loss.  I can see no downside to such an improvement.  I cannot imagine that any user would prefer the current identical notifications so there would be no possible reason to further extend settings options.

To be honest, I think the current arrangement of identical GPS gain and loss sounds is one rather crude aspect of an otherwise highly sophisticated and polished application.  In other areas, "good", positive or confirmation sounds have been different, usually higher frequency or more "upbeat",  from "bad", negative or warning notifications since before the days of MS-DOS.

Hi Richard,

have you tried to select different number of beeps for GPS gain and for GPS loss? It might help, what you say?

Uhm, but I can select different sounds for GPS lock-on and GPS loss from the availble sounds in my phone. So, I leave the BEEP and select another one for GPS loss. (Tap on the text left from the on/off slider).

I have 5 beeps every minute if the GPS loss occurs. I have 1 beep when GPS lock-on occurs. Simple and easy to tell the difference.
