Distance recording delay

Andet shared this idea 7 years ago
Declined

Besides time recording delay include also distance recording delay. This would be better when you use it to cut beginning of recorded track. It will be useful when you want to publish track but not show starting point = home location.

Then the end of the track also should be cut by default (with the same distance).

Time delay for this is worse because:

- you have to think of how much time to set to get right distance for cutting,

- when something delays your start, the recording might start at home.

Gosh! I can't edit my post. Meybe the issue is that I'm logging from G+ account and there I've changed from "Andet M" to "Andet". Advise please. Needed access for future activity.

Added: Changed in locusmap,eu in settings to Andet, still can't edit. Let's leave it, will see in future posts.

I think it's more because already existing topics can't be edited if I remember correctly.

Anyway this idea: I believe that starting time offset is already there (start countdown). Distance offset has from my point of view small sense a lot better should be something like "min accuracy to start". But because accuracy value is also quite weird and unprecise, even this has small sense.

Recorded track may be simply manually updated so feel free to cut unnecessary start and end part after track recording is finished.

@Menion, thanks for your response.

Understand your point of view, but from user's perspective that uses it constantly it's much better to automate it (distance cutting of beginning and end of recorded track) then cutting it manually each time :)

It could be optional in settings. I know, you are overloaded with ideas, must prioritize, understand, that's the issue :)

And here is the problem ... "each time". Is it really necessary? I cut part of track (usually after) really rarely only in cases, I forget to stop recording and enter building.

So start delay may be covered by existing countdown timer, so this is solved from my point of view.

End of track > why should I need to cut end of track automatically in most cases?

@Andet - after certain time (maybe an hour), or after another person makes a comment, it is no longer possible to edit the original post. Before then it is possible but the "edit" icon is hidden unless the mouse is hovered over the most recent text. See screen cap:

Quite confusing.

Example scenario for cutting begining and end of recorded track:

You make bike trips starting and ending at home. All of them you transfer to gpsies and make them public.

But you don't want to reveal to public where is your home / garage exactly. For me sensible, but don't know how much desired by others. (time delay sometimes make starting recording at home because it happens that I hit the road with delay, e.g. meeting somebody, talking, going back for something, ..., and it doesn't cut ending part).

Ok, I'm easing off. :)

Thanks for life example Andet. I believe you will agree .. even time or distance delay with start/stop recording may not solve this issue in all cases. Because no matter if you define time or distance, when you forget to stop recording for longer time (longer time/distance offset, longer "forget time" needed of course), it will still include your house into recorded track.

I really suggest to check every track manually before upload to GPSies, because I see no universal solution for your use-case here. Sorry.
