Does Locus work with external GPS/Glonass receiver (GNS 2000)?

Solved

Hi

I use Locus free on my mobile phone with great satisfaction. Three weeks ago I bought an external GPS/GLONASS receiver but it seems that Locus doesn't work with my GNS 2000 external GPS. Given that I like this app for its semplicity, someone could help me to solve the problem?

Thank you

Leandro

Hi Leandro, could you please provide more information? I.e. precise description of the situation when you try to connect devices, does Locus "see" the GPS or it "sees" it but won't process its data...?

Dear Michail

thank you for your reply. Well, I don't know if it sees the external bluetooth but doesn't process the data but I'm not able to use my GNS 2000. Instead, MyTrails free works very well with external GPS and it's possible to download the maps on the SD card; this is impossible with Locus Free. On the other hand, Locus free is far simpler than MyTrails, with better maps.

Hi Leandro, could you please activate bluetooth on both phone and your receiver, turn LocusMap on, go to Menu > More > Bluetooth manager, turn on the GPS device switch, check "enable GPS from Bluetooth device" and tell me what happens?

Dear Michal

I've followed your suggestions but the display shows this notice: problem with internet connection. Maybe, Locus doesn't work with GNS 2000 external Bluetooth

hmmm, I don't know what internet connection has to do with bluetooth or GPS. Locus needs internet only for downloading online maps, for updating Locus Store or calculating navigation route... Anyway you could try "Bluetooth GPS" app available at Google Play if the communication between the receiver and Locus still doesn't work.

This topic has been opened for 3 weeks without further reply of its initiator so I consider it solved.

I had no problem getting the GNS2000 to work with Locus. Unfortunately, the GPS accuracy was worse than the one of my internal (Galaxy S4) GPS, so I returned it.

Thanks Ingo for your observation. It looks like the external GPS units will soon be abandoned as redundant... :)

I used GNS 2000 matched to my mobile phone for my mountain hiking with MyTrails (internal mobile phone GPS didn't work); it runned amazingly for around 10 hours. Besides, I compared the GNS 2000 with my Garmin Forerunner 310 XT and I got the same distance. I don't believe external GPS will soon be abandoned.
