I have a secure android phone that does not have google play services or connect to the internet in any way.
I copied the free locus apk and installed. on launch it wants to download 5 mb.
Is this download a verification of some kind? why is it required on the free version? can it be circumvented or worked around?

request on download extra data in Locus Free do not require Google Play service (Locus do not use this at all), anyway internet is required and there is no existing workaround.

so what is the purpose of this 5mb download? what servers does it connect to?
seems strange and somewhat nefarious to be honest. locus never used to require this.

This is a request to our internal server.
Purpose is simple: Locus require some native libraries that are around 5 MB big and for every processor platform are different. Currently we have 4 versions. So in generally, we should increase size of Locus by 20 MB by including all four platforms into APK installation file (so everyone will download extra 15 MB that won't be needed), or we may choose to download only required data, when they are needed. We choose second option.
