Edit locus vector map "*.osm.map"
Answered
Greetings,
Is there any way to edit locus vector map "*.osm.map" in order to modify/create my own roads directly on the vector map file?
I bought the vector map on the store, but I quickly figured that some small roads are missing. I'm not interested in just creating tracks with locus and visualize them on the app, i want to modify and add new items.
I have global mapper v16 and i figured it should probably be possible to edit *.osm.map on my computer, and then export it back to the locus vector map folder on my phone. I still didn't find a way to do so.
I also tried with OZIExplorer, but after opening the file it just shows a blank area.
I would be most grateful if someone can provide any help.
Hi Claudelpierre,
Best way for add things to OSM maps is to edit by OSM website itself. This is the source for all other. The best benefit is, your work is for all users around the world!

Hi Claudelpierre,
unfortunately there is no way how to edit *.osm.map. The best way how to "edit" locus (vector) maps is contributing in OSM project (as KaHeMu wrote). How to start is well described in: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Beginners'_guide
Thank you
Best regards

Hi,
Would
it be possible to develop an "Edit Browser" (like the OSM one) for
Locus app. In this case it would be possible to edit the map offline directly on
our Smartphone and then download the changes to the OSM Project?!?

It would be possible, but highly unreasonable to develop something like that. Even if done, it would be highly inefficient to process it this way. These things are done directly on the master OSM online DB, either by their online editors ID or Potlatch2, or offline editor JOSM.
Minor updates like adding POIs ( point of interest ) and few others can be done by OSM map client application like OSMAnd ( for sure ) or Locus - (here I just guess it can do it) by sending minor update command directly to OSM online database.

Hi Gaël,
thank you for question but I can only agree with Libor Poutnik Striz. There are another very powerful "officials" OSM editor. I can say that Locus is quite useful app that helps with survey but it should not be OSM editor.
Thank you for understanding

Hi Petr, Hi Libor,
I do understand you position as a developer. As a user of Locus offline I just say that, when I see a bench for example, I don't want to write a note, I just want to put the Icon directly at the right place and offline. Then the download to the OSM database should be automatically done when I am again online. I don't know anybody who would report a bench for example afterward on his computer on the OSM editor website. I would like to be able to contribute to the OSM database but in an easy way, which should be as less time consuming as possible.
Best regards,
Gaël

Hi Gaël,
I see but the Locus should not be OSM editor. There are other tools like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.blau.android or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.mapsquare.osmcontributor
Or you can also try my approach how to collect OSM data. I use Locus quick points feature - http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:points:quick_add&
It enables to prepare definition for different types of points (Bus stops, guidepost, bench, postbox, etc) I have defined about 20 different types (icons). Locus can add counter or automatic text into name of the points. Finally I start track recording in the field and I'm able to add new point with two click. I export recorded track into GPX and create new points via JOSM editor. It's not automatic solution but it gives you possibility to quickly record data in the fields and review the new points before upload them from JSOM to OSM server.
I only want to say that I also use Locus for mapping of OSM.
Best regards
