FieldNotes being created while logging online: Bug or feature?

When I log a cache online, an offline field note is created anyway and is shown in the preview window of the cache and other caches as well. Something like "a field note exists for this cache". I don't know why Locus / the FieldNote addon creates these and I'd like to prevent that from happening. Is that an intended feature? Can it be turned off?

Second: I don't understand the new FieldNote Addon and the way it works. Is there a brief manual somewhere?
