Friends logs

I know this idea of 'friend logs' was part of topics before (2 year ago or so), so now in 2016 maybe the api from GC has been extended: is it possible to retrieve the list of geofriends (over API) and filter the presently downloaded logs set against that?

Hi,

are you sure "it was extended"? Because for me it looks like it's stuck for a few years on same place.

@Arcaoo as an expect on Geocaching API ... any news here? Thanks

Hi Menion,

Retrieve logs created by some user is possible (API call GetUsersGeocacheLogs), but unfortunately there is no way to retrieve list of friends via API. This feature request is already more than year in a wishlist at their API forum, but as is known they implements only what is necessary for their application.

Thanks Arcao, this is what I've expected.

So R50.nl, unfortunately this is still now possible. Thanks for understanding.

Yes, I was afraid we would run into this still. At least we checked: thanks!

Revisiting this one, as I was discussing this with cachers wanting this:

we already have the Locus settings for 'Names of Friends'. So that list can be used to retrieve specific logs of Geo-Friends over the API of GC. Then also Locus has such a function, similar to what cgeo has.

What do you think?

No reaction yet to my last post: not read or not a good idea (I thought it was a good idea...)

Hmm how you can imagine it should work?

1. get list of friend from Locus Map

2. download all logs for all defined friends

3. display these logs in certain caches when possible

If so, I do not know limits on API requests, but because some cachers has quite a lot of logs, then with combination of a "lot of friends", it should be quite deadly feature. Such solution should also be done directly in Locus and not in add-on, because of simplicity (Locus API is not usable for this task).

My steps abo may work, but because of amount of work, I'm not a big fan of this solution, sorry.
