Give a warning when going away from pre-calculated navigation route

bascule shared this idea 11 years ago
Completed

I`ve been experimenting with voice-driven navigation (the main reason I bought the Pro edition) and it works fine with the exception that you get no warning when you have taken a wrong turn. I was offline, so no automatic re-calculation of the route and on a motorbike, so no view of the phone`s screen.

I deliberately went the wrong way at a junction, expecting at least a message to say `wrong turn taken` or something similar. There was just silence until I got back to the planned route and was approaching a junction, whereupon the navigation picked up again.

Just wondering whether it would be easy to add a TTS warning or waypoint beep to tell you that you have gone off the planned route?

What you`re looking for is here, I think:

http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manu... / Tracks / Notify when too far away from track

Hmm I think that bascule remind me something I wanted to do quite a long time ago. You`re probably not right tommi, because if I understand it correctly

1. bascule use Voice navigation in Locus.

2. tommi suggest notification that are related to "Guiding" which is quite different

3. I may confirm, that there is no warning when you turn out of track, because just in saturday during a car-ride I turn in wrong direction and after few km I just notified that navigation is silent for too long :)

I really looking forward to some improvements in navigation in Locus. Currently I have some more important tasks to do, but this will come as next (again, if I understand your post correctly) :)

Hm, what I proposed was meant really honestly, it wasn`t meant as a agibe for in my opinion too long sleeping progress in the areas of navigation and "guiding with your ears/voice instructions for normal tracks.

Do I have your promise that you pick up these things before spring season this year?

Unfortunately no :/ ... maps & POIs & address & usability improvements has higher priority. You know that Locus is not meant to be a "Voice navigation tool" primary. So unfortunately this still have to wait a little, sorry (btw. you may see what are most common topics here on GS - they`re mostly related to geocaching, maps and simplifications)

It is a pity. I use Locus for on/off-road motorbike and I am missing this feature too.

hey, back on trees. Overcomplicated Locus show it`s weakness :) (too complicated system of guiding/navigation). I wanted to do something with this and noticed that it`s already there

If you enable notification for guiding "Notify when too far away from track" (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manu...), it also works for this!! Damn I really have to make is more simple

Also I`m just testing it at home, so some confirmation from the field is welcome

ahm, confused now. Does it mean that my proposal was correct?

If so, you should really soon come back to this area and do at least few improvements (treat "Notify when switching to another point" as 2nd kind of navigation instead of treating as guiding; this would make it in my opinion more clear and more powerful. Of course both kind of navigations should be combinable with "Notify when too far away from track" with all its options (beep, sound, speech)).

I don`t give up fighting for this!

hehe, I also suggest don`t give it up, because, yes, you were again correct ;)

in this case, it`s because "notify when too ..." existed even before navigation was introduced in Locus. And when i did navigation, I for sure forget to disable this in case you really "navigate". So seems that this bug is in the end benefit.

So the `Guiding` notifications should work simultaneously with the `Navigation` notifications?

It didn`t seem to work like that for me, but I will test again and reply to this thread with the outcome.

Thanks for the help!

only "Notify when too far away from track". Notification on next point will not work directly with navigation

I tryied today and "Notify when too far away from track" works. When I was few more minutes away from track I heard my notif.sound every cca 1 min. After comeback on track (different point where lost) notif.sound shut up and navigation start continue automaticaly.

There is no "welcome" notification when come back on track, but probably you care about display how to return on the right way so you can see.

Try tts for "Notify when too far away from track". It even tells you the direction you need to take to come back to the track!

fine, so I`m marking this idea to implemented, anyway as we already discuss, expect improvements in the future!
