gps fix indicator on/green and (mostly) off/orange

Hello,

Locus behaves differently since I changed phone (about 6 months ago), and this new behaviour persists across new Locus versions. I have no such problems with other apps using GPS on this phone.

On my Xiaomi Redmi 5A (android 7.1.2 / MIUI 10.1.1.0), the GPS fix indicator is most of the time orange, I can see it turning green only very briefly. Position appears good and fluidly updated so basically all works, but I can be sure about the GPS fix only by going to the satellite panel.

Even more annoying is when I try to use Locus while moving to check my direction of motion: the blue arrow cursor appears only very briefly (some milliseconds, too short to check the direction) and most of the time I get only the round position cursor.

Is there some setting that could improve this?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

did you exclude Locus Map from all means of battery optimization and does Locus have all system permissions it needs? See https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:gps_lost_fix_android6#xiaomi or https://dontkillmyapp.com/xiaomi.

best regards

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried these settings from the manual:

Security > Battery > App Battery Saver > select Locus Map > No restrictions

Security > Manage apps > Permissions > Autostart > Locus Map ON

but nothing changes.

Unfortunately, the other settings suggested are not accessible on my phone's system version (even the "turn OFF RAM optimization" from the developper's options).

As said, this problem doesn't occur with other apps, for instance with maps.me that I use sometimes in town (and without any particular setting for it). So  there should be a way around, although it might be hard to find.

regards,

Laure

Hi Laure,

instructions summed up here https://dontkillmyapp.com/xiaomi should provide for correct excluding of Locus Map from your phone battery optimization.

Try also this - go to Locus settings > Gps&sensors > Google Services assisted location - ON.

Hi Michal,

I had also tried the instructions in the link (basically the same as on your pages, and with the same restrictions for me).

But your last piece of advice "Locus settings > Gps&sensors > Google Services assisted location - ON" did the trick! It seems all works normally now.

thanks!
