Hi Samar,

and what does Locus indicate? GPS present but no data (GPS icon is orange) or is it white?

Yes, GPS icon is orange, but satellite searching not initialized by Locus.

But if i found GPS location by another app, then switch to Locus - my last location will be determined by Locus. GPS icon in this case is still orange, system GPS icon isn't appears in android status bar.

Hi Samar, check if your Google Play Services have location data permission.

Locus works fine after i wiped google play services data. Thank you for support.

This same problem has happened to me after today's upgrade to 3.30.3

Hi, the same problem, i.e. GPS not ON after Locus start even though you have "Always at start" set?

Yes. the same problem. My settings are set to always turn the GPS on at app start app(I have just checked this). This worked perfectly with 3.30.2, the day before yesterday, and then stopped working after yesterday's upgrade to 3.30.3. I tried wiping all Google play services data and rebooted but this made no difference.

What color is the GPS icon in Locus? White, orange or green? Is your device GPS on? Is the GPS indicated as ON with other location apps?

The colour is Orange. The device GPS is on. I checked that by running GPS Status from within Locus Maps and it found the satellites and location within seconds. Other GPS programs work as normal and the satellite icon appears in the top bar of my phone.

Does Locus have all necessary location access permissions secured in your system settings?

I have just re-installed version 3.30.2 and it works perfectly, getting a satellite fix in seconds. So the problem was introduced in version 3.30.3. Thank goodness for backups!!! I will continue to work with 3.30.2 until you fix 3.30.3. Many thanks for your fast response. That is impressive.

Yes.

Peter, I asked in your other thread - did you experience this with version 3.29 and older? Or have you used Locus just since 3.30.2?

Are the Locus settings automatically carried forward from v 3.30.2 to v 3.30.3?

All I can say for sure is that I made not changes in settings while upgrading from 3.30.2 to 3.30.3 and then down grading back to 3.30.2

But at the very least I have a working system, even if it means working the prior version and that makes me very happy.

Hi Michal,

sorry, have not yet read the prior thread.

I have used Locus Pro for several months. Then earlier this year GPS access failed. I solved that problem by turning ON the newly available compatibility mode. Then with the arrival of 3.30.2 compatibility mode no longer worked! Luckily I got around the problem by turning OFF compatibility mode. 3.30.2 then continued to work very nicely for me.

But yesterday 3.30.3 broke my GPS access. Anyway I have reverted to 3.30.2, so for the time being I am very happy with your marvellous app.

I feel for you guys. As a software developer myself I know exactly what it is like to work under pressure on a complex system that must work on many different environments and to make it worse, users like myself report their problems in vague, confusing ways. Anyway, good luck. I am confident you guys will find a good solution.

Thanks Peter for the update. However, it's quite confusing because we've been forced to return to an older solution of getting location because in 3.30. we introduced location via Fused location provider made by Google, promising stability, accuracy and battery efficiency. NEvertheless, this system doesn't work on all Androids as you saw yourself - turning to the "compatibility mode" meant switching FLP off and getting raw GPS data. In 3.30.3. Locus gets only raw GPS data as it used to in versions 3.29 and older. And you say it doesn't work for you, that's weird.

Michal,

Yes, it is weird. To be doubly sure I am going to delete 3.30.2 and re-install 3.30.3 and starting from scratch, re-do all my settings. Give me 15 minutes or so and I will report back.

OK, the good news is that worked. After a fresh, clean install Locus 3.30.3 is working perfectly with the default settings. Thanks so much for all your help. I can only surmise that somehow the carry over of settings from 3.30.2 to 3.30.3 caused the problem.

Peter, thanks a lot for your cooperation and testing. Much appreciated!

Keep up the marvellous work. I will soon be nagging you to death about another subject. After a lot of investigation I think your Calorie calculations for walking and running are quite badly wrong and I have a detailed, worked out proposal for getting more accurate results. But that will be another thread as soon as I have properly prepared my motivation.
