GPS for all? News features

Hello, first of all congratulate and thank for Locus, a quality application and especially evolution and growth.

And it is on this latter one point I would make a couple of queries.

Locus is a very complete application for recording tracks among other things, but I could be even more an all in one (from my perspective) if you could add certain features.

As GPS for sport, you could add the following:

- Management of pace (min / km) and not just speed.

- Voice feedback at certain intervals (eg every 1km) to tell us average pace, distance traveled, total time, etc..

- Be able to define training plans (time or speed intervals) with voice feedback. It would be great.

- Be able to record the shoe or bike that activity was recorded (although personally I think this one can handle creating folders to store different tracks)

As car GPS:

-The only point that I would be more than welcome is the calculation / recalculation of routes to navigate offline.

I searched some of these features in the ideas / suggestions for changes, but can not find anything referring to whether to implement or not, and can not find anything that gather them all, but ... particular order of some of them which are apparently abandoned in time or with few votes ...

My question is if you intend at some point to add these features to mention.

Greetings from Argentina.

PS: I know that there are other applications on the play of google that perform these tasks, for sport: Strava, Runtastic, Endomondo, Runkeeper, etc., to car MapFactor, OsmAnd, etc ... but ... would be nice to get everything in Locus!...

Hello tigus,

I`m personally also a fan of "All in one" solutions. On second side, these solutions are never so good as separate products specialized on single feature.

Features you talk about related to sport usage are also in my mind. There already exists some topics as you wrote, so I really suggest to vote in these topics. Then you`ll be notified when something change. Mainly support for some voice feedback is something I definitely want to do next year.

Some advanced features around "training plans" etc are currently not planned. I now think, that this belong to specialized apps, but we`ll see

And offline routing is something that really miss in Locus. On second side we`re really small team and such task is currently out of our time/knowledge etc. So we hope that some 3rd party solution that we should use will appear.

For example in next version of Locus will be added direct support for BRouter app, which is first step. It`s offline routing solution that currently compute "only" track without navigation orders, but it`s completely offline.

hope this gives you at least little answer to your question

Hi Tigus, I fully understand your proposal and in the same way I understand Menion.

Regarding the sports tracker itself you may look here and add further details:

Hello Mennion and Tommy .

First of all thanks for the responses of both.

Mennion , complete and satisfactory response . It`s what I love about Locus, as saying that while they may be a small team working , are a team and are aware of improvements and additions , that matters ! Sooner or later, at least as you mention these supplements can be added (hopefully sooner rather :) ) . I understand that many times we ask features / specific needs ... or are difficult to implement on a theme of time / knowledge ... or are so specific that only satisfy a user ... and you have to evaluate how useful can be to the product itself as to how many users satisfied and if you follow the target line of Locus . So my question of whether they are features that can at least get interested or be on the list of "things to do" .

I voted GetSatifaction some related topics , but I get the feeling that many times "are forgotten". They may not be of importance to the user community , so I wanted to consult directly with you.

Tommy , I agree ... I also understand Mennion response . Is that one as user is never satisfied :) ?

In my particular case as an anecdote , when I have to register an activity, always use Locus as logging tool . I know that I can then export as gpx (I put option by default) and import it into any sports application. I alternate between Runtastic and Strava , liking the web a little more of the latter, but Android application level seems a little fuller Runtastic ( PRO version ) .

So, I perform the activity with both applications running at the same time, Locus and Strava or Runtastic alternately.

Maybe they could export directly to one of these two, it would be more of a import export dummy as it exists to GPSies, but do not know technical aspects such as the libraries of them.

Greetings .

Funny, I do it exactly the same way: Locus + Runtastic Pro :)

Hi, I looking also for the feature to export directly to Runtastic. Is this in plans?

Thanks Petr

Hello Peter,

in last versions were added support for RunKeeper as Strava. Both sites has existing API for developers, that means that apps like Locus may export tracks (for example) directly to your profile.

Unfortunately as I know, Runtastic as well as for example Endomonto, do not support such external access, so there is no way to directly communicate with Runtastic server.

So only chance I see is possibility to send email with track to some runtastic email, which will automatically add track in email to your profile. Such feature already exists for example for "Ride with GPS" and it works nice. But I don`t know if such "email" exists ...
