HDOP recording

It would be nice if HDOP would be recorded too. Its very useful if you are mapping Openstreetmap because JOSM can display your gps accuracy of the track if youz have hdop.

if you can explain HDOP - maybe i can vote for that :)

It`s an number that show the effect of the satellite constellation o your GPS precision. Locus is already logging PDOP (3D) but JOSM can`t handle PDOP it need HDOP (2D) to color your gpx track.

exactly. DOP is generally some precision (without unit number). Every device have own precision constant that is multiplied by DOP numbers to obtain precision in some units (usually metres).

Anyway if I remember correctly, internal android GPS reports only some accuracy value. This will be probably mentioned PDOP, but personally I`m not sure. NMEA messages anyway contain these values so they can be grabbed from here.

If there will be interest, I`ll check it more precisely

ok it works with importing the nmea file to JOSM

Thank you

Occasionally I just want to view the DOP values without recording.

To do this, I have installed the app "GPS Status & Toolbox" (a Locus co-app) from Google Play Store. The app is free and 455KB in size. I then place a link to the app in the Right Panel as below-

The app opens to a page which displays all three values of DOP-

This was discussed on the other forum, as adding the DOP values to a second page to the SAT page, thus eliminating the need for a second app, and also adding buttons for controlling A-GPS data.

If some day HDOP values would be in exported GPX, it'd be much more convenient for JOSM mappers. No big NMEA files (often dozens of MB) filling SD cards during 3 weeks vacation. No more "oh, damn it, I only moved all the GPX files from mobile to PC and forgot the NMEA files". Track recording with condition "every 5sec" would only write every 5 seconds instead of every GPS signal emitted by the operating system triggering NMEA file update, prolonging battery and sd card life. 50% less files needed to be imported & handled in JOSM.

Hello Georg,

unfortunately

1. HDOP values are not directly know in Android

2. only way is to parse NMEA messages that are available on some devices,

but not on all! This anyway add some additional work to your CPU even if

almost no one needs it

3. GPS Status use these NMEA messages, or just compute HDOP value from global available PDOP

4. because of only one star after two years, I'm closing this idea

@1-3: Some accuracy information is obviously known in Locus 3.x as tracks can be colorized according to point accuracy and an export to CSV contains for both waypoints and tracks an accuracy field. It seems like that existing field just had to be added in the GPX export.

@4: Quite understandable. Still, the general request accuracy in export files" pops up again and again, here for GPX, in other ideas for KML and CSV. I don't care about the format as long as I somehow get it into JOSM ;-)
