hillshade Contour lines
Answered
I know Locus already display hillshade contour lines from SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) but i would like to know if I can use other sources , more precise for this.
I found an android program https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.osmand.srtmPlugin.paid which can display this data from ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer), an imaging instrument onboard Terra, the flagship satellite of NASA's Earth Observing System.
Can Locus integrate this source(or other better) for hillshade?
Dear Marius,
honestly you can use any data source that provide elevation data in HGT format. I don't know if ASTER data are available in HGT format. However you can copy hgt files into folder Locus/data/srtm
I'd like to say that we don't use raw SRTM data. For contour lines and shading are used data from http://viewfinderpanoramas.org/dem3.html More over we use short script that check and fix holes in data (if exist).
Finally I'd like to say that contour-lines are defined directly in the map file - only shading is created on the fly on your device from HGT files.
Best regards
Petr

The problem is that there isn't great source of .hgt data(searched for my region today)
I found free geotiff SRTM data, but Locus does not know but only .hgt
That is why more format support would be nice

Hello Marius,
I see but Locus supports only HGT format. I'm sorry but I'm almost sure that there isn't any reason to change it. However you can try GDAL software to convert geotiff to HGT format. For more info:

Hi Marius, for some weeks, I use alternative elevation data sets in Locus, e.g. a laser measurement for Austria which is more reliable in steep mountain areas. So far it simply works. Download URLs in http://www.openandromaps.org/oam-forums/topic/neues-genaueres-hoehenmodell-fuer-oesterreich#post-10762 (also as HGT formatted file) and example screenshots etc. in other posts of that thread. Cheers, Georg
