Hello Clay,
this feature needs the elevation data to be able draw the shading. The data are distributed in *.hgt files that cover specific rectangle area.
So it seems that you downloaded (earlier during using Locus) only some part of them. Please download data for missing area - there is temporary solution how to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRO_UEsQQrU
Basically create new point (in missing areas) and in point details screen tap on "Get" altitude. Locus download the missing file.
BTW: we're prepare new feature that you'll be able to download elevation data for whole region (country) from Locus store. This feature will be available in next months.
