Hold center method improvements

Robin99 shared this idea 11 years ago
Completed

From the manual: "Hold center method – after 5 seconds of inactivity the map returns to your actual GPS position on the center of the screen".

But not necessary. When for example I shift the map and turn on geocache dialog and I leave it after longest time the map is centered on gps position again. In my opinion it should not because there wasn`t a 5 sec inactivity - I do something on the screen all the time.

Suggestion: when some dialogs are open on the screen, map inactivity timer should be paused until dialog is closed.

I`m changing this more on idea, because I think, current solution is not a bug. It`s just a way how it works

May I suggest an additional idea about the hold center method?

Currently, long tap of the most left button at the bottom panel just pop-up an information message, while it is possible to assign a default action for long tap of the most right button and the second left button.

Suggestion:

- long tap of the most left button pop-up a menu to choose a default action.

- action 1 : a function to enable/disable hold center method.

- action 2 : change inactivity time in sec for user`s preferable value.

I just wanted to add a similar proposal as ta-ka.

While it is fine in many situations during hiking, cycling to get returned to the current location after some seconds it is sometimes annoying that one has to go through the menus and search for the setting to switch it off because one wants to look in more detail into an area not displayed on the screen around the current location.

At least it should be possible to toggle enable/disable the hold center method with a long tap on the most left button in the bottom pane.

I'm pretty sure this idea was just forgotten as this functionality would be really helpful and shouldn't be difficult to implement.

Hi guys,

firstly idea by Robin99: even it do not look so, it's little bit complicated to do it. Mainly to find correct situations when and why apply this new rule. Everytime map is not visible? Don't make sense, for all point? Is it really needed for all points? etc. etc.

I just added checkbox that will be visible on long-click. It seems to be useful, so thanks for idea. Possibility to define timeout - if you taka really this it may be useful, I may add this to config file. But I don't think it's so important that it should be configurable directly in UI.

Hi all,

My priority wish was to toggle hold center method by long tap of the button as same as tommi's proposal. So, I'm happy that it becomes available. :)

About to define the timeout value, it is already possible by map_hold_center_method_timeout in config.cfg. So, @menion, are you talking about to add something else to config.cfg? I'm a bit confused.

In any case, I personally set longer timeout value and don't change it so frequently. So, if no one think it is useful to change the timeout value from UI, I agree that it's not important to implement the UI.
