How do I remove a kmz custom map?

I make hike maps and have loaded one into Locus but cannot find a way to delete it from the program.

Hello Tom

kmz maps are stored under

locus/mapItems > delete it with a file manager

or

menu/More functions/Map items/3-dot button behind map name/ delete

Both places are empty, yet the maps are still on the display. They appear to be in the "Locus>Data>Import" folder, but I don't know how to delete them from the location. Using "multiselect" doesn't allow me to select any files.

Hi Tom,

go to Locus main menu > More > Map items > topbar > tap "Hide temporary items on map".

Does it help?

Yes, that does remove them. Thanks.

I have also found that rebooting the phone removes them from sight.

Neither of these however removes the maps from the phones memory. They are still there in the Locus>Data>Import folder.

Nor does it appear there is a way to return them to display once the phone is rebooted. I'd really like to be sure downloaded maps are available after the phone is rebooted without having to have a cell connection to download them again.

Move the KMZ files from Locus/data/import to Locus/mapItems with some file manager (ES Explorer). Once the files are there, Locus loads them at start and you can choose which to display and which not (https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:items)

Thanks, I'll give this a try. I am new to Android, but it seems unusual to have to use third party software to do something within an app. Is there no way to load them so the KMZ files don't disappear from Locus on reboot?

Hi Tom,

which way did you add the KMZ map to Locus? It seems you did so by some unconventional way. If you imported them by Locus menu > Import, they would be written in Locus database and wouldn't disappear upon restart. The same if you added it to Locus via Locus menu > Map Items feature.

Thanks, Michal.

I tap the icon on the screen that brings up the File Browser with access to Dropbox, Google Drive and other places. Then select the KMZ file form Google Drive. Tap on the file and the dialog box says, "Download and import the selected file?" The next dialog box says, "No points or tracks for the import in the file(s) Do you want to load and display content on map?"

Tap on "Yes" and the map loads and appears.

After restarting the phone, the focus i still on the same location, but the just loaded KMZ map is no longer visible.

This is an Samsung J7 phone.

Please let em know if more information is needed. I like this app a lot, anything more you can do would be appreciated.

Hi Tom,

thanks for the description.

If a KMZ doesn't contain tracks or points Locus doesn't import it to its database but it just displays the content on map. Therefore, next time if you know such a KMZ contains a map, open Locus menu > mapItems > Add. Locus will then handle the KMZ differently and it will stay in its directory structure even after restart.

Thanks, Michal. That solved the problem.

I'm liking the app. I need to learn enough about it so I can recommend it to Android users in my hiking group.
